Melis Nemid runs a dive resort in the Caribbean and knows how dangerous the water can be, but she has never wanted anything to do with the treasure that is supposed to lie under it.
About
Fatal Tide is a thriller by the American writer Iris Johansen, published in 2003. It is set in the Caribbean, where the wreck of a treasure ship has drawn hunters for generations.
Melis Nemid is a marine researcher who runs a dive resort on a small island, and she wants to be left alone to get on with it. The lure of the bounty under the sea has already cost her two men she cared about, so when unexplained things begin to happen around the resort she is reluctant to look into them.
Adam O'Connor, a former lover of hers, arrives on the island without warning, somebody tries to kidnap her, and she begins to suspect that not one of the guests staying at the resort is the person they claim to be. From there the book follows her attempt to work out what she has been dragged into and who is behind it. The novel is a suspense story with a romance in it, and it keeps its attention on what the people on the island are hiding from one another.
