Fallen Hearts
Heaven Casteel returns to the West Virginia hills and begins to live out her childhood dreams: she becomes a respected schoolteacher at the local school and marries her sweetheart, Logan Stonewall.
About
Fallen Hearts is the third novel in the Casteel series attributed to the American novelist V. C. Andrews. It was published in 1988 and the book was finished by her ghostwriter Andrew Neiderman, though it appeared under Andrews's name.
The novel continues directly from Heaven and Dark Angel. Heaven returns to the hills where she grew up, the part of West Virginia her family was ashamed of, and she becomes a schoolteacher and marries Logan Stonewall, so the plot begins with the fulfilment of ambitions the earlier books had established rather than with a new crisis.
The complication is Boston. After the wedding trip to Farthinggale Manor, Tony Tatterton offers Logan a position and promises Heaven the wealth and privilege of the Tatterton family, and the couple stay. The novel's tension is the reappearance of the family's history inside a life that was supposed to be settled. The offer is the point of the novel: Heaven's return to Winnerow is the fulfilment of what she wanted, and the wealth waiting in Boston is what tests it, since the two cannot both be accepted.
