Executive Orders
After a terrorist attack kills almost everybody in the American government, the man who had recently been confirmed as Vice President is sworn in as President.
About
Executive Orders is a thriller by the American writer Tom Clancy, released on 1 July 1996. It takes up the story exactly where Debt of Honor left it, and it is dedicated to the former American president Ronald Reagan.
The attack on the Capitol kills nearly every figure in the executive, the legislature and the judiciary, and Jack Ryan, who had been confirmed as Vice President shortly before, is sworn in as President of the United States.
Ryan is left representing the United States more or less by himself. Among the things he has to do is reconstitute a Cabinet, a House of Representatives, a Senate and a Supreme Court, and at the same time deal with a challenge to the legitimacy of his succession. The novel also carries on the stories of the other characters from the series, and it is one of the longest of the books.
The novel also carries on the stories of the other characters from the series, including John Clark. It debuted at number one on the New York Times bestseller list.
