Every Breath You Take
Kate Donovan is a television producer whose career has stalled, and she is given an interview with the only survivor of a massacre that has shocked the world.
About
Every Breath You Take is a novel by the American writer Judith McNaught, published in 2005 and set in Chicago.
The Wyatt family fortune and its mansion are the background to the story, and the death that opens it is connected to a past several people have an interest in keeping quiet. Kate is a journalist who has been given an assignment she cannot afford to refuse, and the survivor she interviews knows more than he is willing to say on camera. The novel moves between the investigation and Kate's own history, including a relationship that ended years earlier and is not quite finished. McNaught writes the suspense and the romance in the same register, and the plot turns on old money, an old crime and the question of who in the family knows what about both.
It is one of the author's later novels, and it returns to the Chicago setting of one of her earlier books, with several of that book's characters appearing again and one of them taking a leading part.
