Escape
Six children are sent on a month-long voyage across the Pacific for reasons that have nothing to do with wanting to be there.
About
Escape is a novel for young readers by the Canadian-American writer Gordon Korman, published in 2001. It is a survival story about a group of children who are thrown together by adults who want them out of the way.
Among them is Luke, who took the voyage as the only alternative to juvenile detention for a crime he did not commit. Will and Lyssa are quarrelling siblings whose parents hope a month at sea will teach them to get along, J.J. is the son of a film star who has run out of patience with his pranks, Ian's parents want to cure him of a television habit, and Charla was sent because she was burned out from athletics.
A vicious storm damages the boat and leaves them in the middle of the Pacific with no food, no water and very little chance of rescue. The children have to learn to work together if any of them is going to survive, and the novel is as much about the practical business of staying alive as it is about the personalities who have to do it.
