Endless Night
Michael Rogers is a young rolling stone who has never settled to anything, and when he sees the Gipsy's Acre estate he decides that he wants to live there in a house built by the architect Rudolf Santonix.
About
Endless Night is a mystery novel by Agatha Christie, first published in Britain by the Collins Crime Club in 1967 and in the United States the following year. Its title comes from William Blake's poem Auguries of Innocence, and it is one of the books its author singled out among her own work.
The story is told by Michael Rogers, who is twenty-two and unable to stay in one job or one place for long. He has worked as a chauffeur among other things, and through that life he met the architect Rudolf Santonix, whose houses he admires and whose services he cannot afford.
Walking near the Gipsy's Acre estate one day, Michael falls in love with the ground and decides that he wants to live there among the dark fir trees. The land has a bad name, and the village is full of warnings about accidents and about the people who meddle with the place. Michael does not listen, and the novel is his own account of what happened after he decided to have his house built there.
