End of Watch
Retired detective Bill Hodges and his partner Holly Gibney run a private investigation agency, and Hodges has just been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and given months to live.
About
End of Watch is a crime novel by American writer Stephen King and the third volume of the trilogy centred on Detective Bill Hodges, following Mr. Mercedes and Finders Keepers. The book was first announced at an event at St. Francis College on 21 April 2015 under the title The Suicide Prince, and the new title was announced on 10 June. It was released on 7 June 2016.
The novel was foreshadowed in public. Accepting the Edgar Award for Best Novel for Mr. Mercedes at the 2015 awards, King announced that the trilogy's antagonist, Brady Hartsfield, would return in this book. The result is a crime story rather than a conventional horror one, with the private investigation agency Finders Keepers at the centre and Hodges' diagnosis supplying the deadline that the plot runs against.
The subjects attach private investigators, murder investigations, suicide, psychopathy, suspense and horror fiction to the work, which describes the mixture the series settles into: a procedural structure with an antagonist whose reach extends beyond ordinary means. The book closes the sequence that began with a stolen car driven into a queue of job applicants.
