Earth Song
Philippa de Beauchamp is as impulsive as she is beautiful, and when she hears that she is to be married to the repellent Baron de Bridgeport she flees her father's castle.
About
Earth Song is a historical romance novel by Catherine Coulter, published in 1990 and the third book of her Medieval Song sequence. Its heroine, Philippa de Beauchamp, is impulsive and beautiful and has just been told who she is going to marry.
The prospective husband is the repellent Baron de Bridgeport, and rather than accept the match Philippa leaves her father's castle without permission. The escape is made in a wool wagon, which is the last part of the plan that works properly, and the misadventure that follows puts her in the arms of Dienwald de Fortenberry.
He is a rogue, smooth and bold, and Philippa is not prepared for him. The novel runs from her flight through the confusion it creates between the families concerned, and it keeps the marriage she was running from in play as the thing she may still have to accept.
What Philippa does not know is whether the rogue she has landed beside is any better than the baron she fled, and she has to reach a judgement about him without being able to go home. The flight that began as a refusal becomes a test of what she will accept, and both families are drawn into the consequences of her decision.
