Death's Shadow
The apocalypse has already happened, the world has burned, and something new has grown out of the destruction.
About
Death's Shadow is the seventh book in the Demonata series by Darren Shan, published in 2008. The series is horror written for teenagers, with a large cast, a great deal of violence and a narrator who has been through more than most of his readers would want to imagine.
The apocalypse has come and gone and the world has burned, but that was not the end of it: out of the destruction something new has grown, and human beings are only part of the story now. Bec, who has spent centuries imprisoned, returns to face the demons known as the Demonata, and she comes back far more powerful than she was before. She is not facing Lord Loss alone either, because something else has crawled out of the darkness with her, and the demons have stopped standing by themselves. The novel follows her attempt to fight an enemy that has been waiting a very long time for exactly this opportunity.
This volume is one of the later stages of a long war between humans, magicians and demons, and it assumes the reader has travelled some distance with the series already. The stakes are as large as they can get, since the world has already been lost once.
