About
Dead Ever After is a fantasy novel by Charlaine Harris, published on 7 May 2013 and the thirteenth and final novel of The Southern Vampire Mysteries. Its protagonist is Sookie Stackhouse, a telepathic waitress.
Sookie witnesses the firebombing of Merlotte's, the bar where she works. Since Sam Merlotte is now known to be two-natured, suspicion immediately falls on the people in the area who are hostile to shifters. Sookie is the person who finds the arson difficult to explain, and the novel follows her attempts to do so.
Sookie does not believe that is the whole story, and she and Sam work together to uncover who was responsible and why. Her attention is divided, because she also knows her lover Eric Northman and his child Pam well enough to see that they are plotting to kill another vampire.
At the end of the previous novel Sookie had used up a magical artefact to save Sam's life, and the situation at the start of this book is partly the consequence of that. It closes the account of the bar and the people around it.
