Darkstalker

Darkstalker is a fantasy novel by the American writer Tui T. Sutherland, published in 2016 and part of the Wings of Fire sequence.

The book is set long before the war and the prophecy that the main series is built around. Darkstalker is born under three moons to a NightWing mother and an IceWing father, which puts him between two tribes that have plenty of reasons not to trust each other. He is also extraordinarily powerful, and the story makes clear from the outset that he is going to be the most dangerous dragon his world has known. A SeaWing called Fatham and a NightWing seer called Clearsight are the ones who try to work out how to protect the kingdoms from him.

It is a standalone story set in the same world as the rest of the series, and it fills in the history the other books refer to.
