Daddy
Oliver Watson has a wife, three children and a career he is proud of, and he assumes the arrangement will hold.
About
Daddy is a novel by the American writer Danielle Steel, published in 1989 and set in New York and New England.
Oliver is a man whose life has been organised around work and a marriage he took for granted, and the book begins with the departure of his wife, who has been writing in secret and has decided to stop being only a wife and mother. What follows is Oliver learning to look after three children, including a teenager angry with everybody, and discovering that his own father has begun to live differently after the death of Oliver's mother. The novel moves between the family house, the office and a relationship Oliver begins with a woman who has reasons of her own for keeping her distance. Steel tells it in straightforward chapters, with an eye for the domestic detail of a household being run by somebody who has never done it.
It was the author's twenty-fifth novel, and it appeared in a long run of family stories she published every year.
