Crooked Kingdom
Kaz Brekker and his crew have pulled off the heist that was supposed to make them independent, and instead they have been betrayed and one of their number has been taken.
About
Crooked Kingdom is a fantasy novel by the Israeli-American writer Leigh Bardugo, published by Henry Holt in 2016. It is set in a world loosely inspired by nineteenth-century Europe, and it takes place days after the events of the first book of the duology, Six of Crows.
Kaz Brekker's crew completed a job that was supposed to make them independent, and the book opens with the consequences: the reward has not been paid, one of the group has been captured and the people who hired them have further plans. The plot is told from several points of view, so the reader follows the separate schemes the gang runs at the same time in the city of Ketterdam.
Bardugo writes the pair as a heist story with a large cast and a tight structure, and this second volume has to pay off everything the first one set up. It completed the sequence before the later books in the same world, and it is usually described as the darker half of the pair.
