Cat and Mouse
Gary Soneji, the killer Alex Cross put away, is out of prison, dying and determined to take his revenge before he goes.
About
Cat and Mouse is a thriller by the American writer James Patterson, published in 1997.
Alex Cross, a psychologist who works with the police in Washington, is brought back into the path of Gary Soneji, the man he arrested, who has left prison, is dying of the virus he picked up there and wants his revenge on Cross before the end. A second thread introduces Thomas Augustine Pierce, known professionally as St Augustine, who has spent years hunting a killer he calls Mr Smith since his fiancee was murdered in front of him. When Cross is attacked in his own home and left in a near-death coma, Pierce travels to Washington to help with the investigation, and the two manhunts begin to converge.
Both men are shown at work rather than kept off the page, and the two investigations run alongside each other until they meet. Pierce is known professionally as St Augustine, and the record for catching killers that earned him the name is why the FBI and Interpol keep him close.
