About
Cari Mora is a novel by the American writer Thomas Harris, published in 2019. It was his first book in thirteen years, and only the second of his novels that does not feature Hannibal Lecter.
Caridad Mora came to Miami from Colombia, where she had fought with FARC as a teenager, and she lives in the city under temporary protected status while she works a series of odd jobs. The one she likes best is helping to rehabilitate wildlife at a seabird station, and the one that pays is looking after a house that once belonged to Pablo Escobar.
Under the house is the gold, and it has drawn the attention of two rival groups, one led by Hans-Peter Schneider, a human trafficker, and one based in Colombia. Schneider notices Cari, and the novel follows what happens when the two of them are in the same city and the same search. The group based in Colombia is known as Ten Bells, and its members in Florida include three of Cari's friends. The group based in Colombia is known as Ten Bells, and its members in Florida include three of Cari's friends from before she left home.
