Broken

The book is told by a man who works for people who need difficult things done, describes himself as heartless and cold, and has never wanted a relationship. Olivia Bell comes into his life as part of a deal rather than by choice, handed over to him as a bargaining chip, and he makes her his own. Those who passed her to him had expected him to break her down, and he discovers that what he wants from her is not that. When the same people decide to take her away again, he refuses to let her go. His account of his own behaviour does not ask the reader to approve of him. It is a dark romance for adult readers, told in the first person by the man, and it ends with the two of them together rather than with Olivia being handed back to the people who gave her away.
