Bones Never Lie
Dr Temperance Brennan is called to the Charlotte cold case unit by a homicide detective who works a long way from his own jurisdiction, and the reason is that two child murders thousands of miles apart appear to have been committed by the same person.
About
Bones Never Lie is a crime novel by the American writer Kathy Reichs, published in 2014. It belongs to her series about Temperance Brennan, a forensic anthropologist who works for a medical examiner's office and is regularly drawn into cases that cross jurisdictions.
The story begins with an invitation that makes no sense at first. Brennan is asked to meet a homicide detective whose own patch is on the other side of the country, and the reason is an identification: two killings of children, one in Vermont and one in North Carolina, that share a perpetrator.
That predator is Anique Pomerleau, who abducted and killed a series of girls in Canada years before and then evaded the people hunting her. Brennan and the detective Andrew Ryan were both involved in the failed pursuit, and the fact that Pomerleau appears to be working again in the United States gives both of them a second chance at her. Taking it means bringing Ryan back from the retirement he has withdrawn into, holding the local police and the federal investigators apart, and working a case in which the trail is made up of very little physical evidence.
