Beyond the Highland Mist
Hawk is known throughout the kingdom as a predator of the battlefield and the boudoir, a laird no woman refuses and none of whom has ever stirred his heart.
About
Beyond the Highland Mist is a paranormal romance novel by Karen Marie Moning, published in 1999 and the first of her Highlander stories. Its leading man, known throughout the kingdom as Hawk, has a legend on the battlefield and a legend with women. The fairy has a motive of her own, and Adrienne is the means rather than the object of it.
No woman has ever refused his touch and none of them has ever touched his heart, which is where the story begins. A vengeful fairy moves Adrienne de Simone out of modern-day Seattle and into medieval Scotland, and she arrives in a century that is not hers and in a country that has no idea what to make of her.
Adrienne is described as entirely too bold and too outspoken for her new surroundings, which makes her an irresistible challenge to the sixteenth-century laird. She is coerced into a marriage with Hawk and vows to keep him at arm's length, and the novel is the working out of a vow that neither of them is in a position to keep.
