Better Together
Jamie and Siri are estranged sisters, both in the middle of a quarter-life crisis, and both watching the careers they had planned for drift out of reach.
About
Better Together is a young adult romantic comedy by Christine Riccio, published in 2021. Its two central characters are Jamie and Siri, sisters who have been estranged for thirteen years and who have been living on opposite coasts.
Both of them are in the middle of a quarter-life crisis when the book opens. Adulthood is arriving faster than their plans for it, the careers they had been aiming at feel out of reach, and romance looks implausible to both of them.
They meet again by chance at a nature retreat, and the plan they settle on is a swap: each of them goes home in the other's place to find out how the other half lives. What they discover is that pretending to be a sister is harder than either of them expected.
The novel works on the comedy of the exchange and on the slower business of two people finding out what the other's life actually contains. Neither sister is the person the other had described to herself, and the exchange makes that plain fairly quickly.
