Anna dressed in blood
Cas Lowood is seventeen and has spent three years finishing the work his father began: finding the murderous dead, working out what they are and sending them on.
About
Anna Dressed in Blood is a horror novel by the American writer Kendare Blake, published in 2011 by Tor Teen. It is the first of two books about its narrator.
Cas Lowood's father hunted ghosts for a living, and when he was killed Cas took up the work. Three years later he is seventeen, moving from town to town with his mother, who is a kitchen witch, and their cat, which has a talent for finding the dead. The job is a familiar one by now: identify what a haunting actually is, separate the legend from the facts, and deal with the thing at the centre of it. Then Cas takes on the case of a girl called Anna, who is said to walk a house dressed in the garments she died in, and finds that the pattern he has relied on does not hold. She is more powerful than the ghosts he has met, she is not behaving the way he expects, and his own judgment about what should happen to her is no longer simple.
Blake writes the book in Cas's voice, with the ordinary business of being a teenager running alongside the trade he has inherited from his father.
