And Then He Kissed Her
Emmaline Dove is an authority on etiquette and works as the secretary to a viscount who runs a publishing house.
About
And Then He Kissed Her is a historical romance by the American writer Laura Lee Guhrke, published in 2007 and part of her Girl-Bachelors series.
Emmaline Dove has spent her working life as a secretary and has made herself an expert on etiquette, which she would like to write about if anybody would publish her. Her employer is Viscount Marlowe, the head of a publishing house, a man with a taste for the music hall and an aversion to marriage, and he is the person who decides what the firm prints. The novel follows what happens when Emmaline decides to stop being the woman nobody notices: she leaves, and the viscount discovers that the person who ran his office and his household arrangements was the one keeping his life in order. Guhrke writes about women who earn their own money in a period that made it difficult, and the office is as much the setting as the ballroom.
It is part of a series about women who work for their living, and the other books follow the same circle of employers and employees.
