A Forest of Stars
Five years after the hydrogues attacked the human-colonised worlds of the Spiral Arm, they still control the fuel that drives starships, and the embargo is strangling human civilisation.
About
A Forest of Stars is a science fiction novel by the American writer Kevin J. Anderson, published in 2003. It is the second book of The Saga of Seven Suns.
Five years have passed since the hydrogues attacked the worlds that humans have colonised in the Spiral Arm. They maintain absolute control over the fuel that starships run on, so their embargo is slowly strangling human civilisation.
People on Earth are suffering from fresh attacks by the hydrogues, and the Terran leadership decides to fight them with a cybernetic army. What those leaders do not know is that the robots have already exterminated the people who made them, and that they may shortly turn on humanity as well.
Humans, who were once the rulers of an expanding empire, have become the most endangered species in the galaxy. The sudden appearance of incredible new beings from somewhere beyond the known worlds destroys every balance of power there is, and the novel leaves humans and the many alien factions facing a war whose outcome could be genocide.
