A Curse So Dark and Lonely
Harper has cerebral palsy, a dying mother and a brother who does not think she can look after herself, and she is used to being underestimated.
About
A Curse So Dark and Lonely is a fantasy novel for young readers by the American writer Brigid Kemmerer, published in 2019 and the first of her Cursebreakers series.
Rhen is heir to Emberfall, cursed by an enchantress to relive the same autumn until a girl falls in love with him, and at the end of each failed attempt he turns into something that destroys part of his own household. Inside the castle the season has repeated hundreds of times; outside it only five years have passed. Harper arrives by accident, taken while she was trying to help a stranger, and she is not the sort of girl the curse was designed for: she has no interest in being rescued, she notices what everyone else is pretending not to see, and she wants to get home to her mother. The novel follows both of them, and it retells Beauty and the Beast with a monster who is not the only danger in the kingdom.
The book began a series that continues in A Heart So Fierce and Broken and A Vow So Bold and Deadly.
