Feyre came out of the events Under the Mountain with the powers and the lifespan of the High Fae and none of her old certainties intact.

About

A Court of Mist and Fury is the second A Court of Thorns and Roses novel, published in 2016, and it begins with Feyre Archeron remade. She came out of the events Under the Mountain with the powers and the lifespan of the High Fae, and the things she did to keep Tamlin and his people alive have not stayed in the past. Her nightmares, her hollowness and a marriage she is not sure she wants are the baggage she brings home.

The bargain Feyre struck with Rhysand, the High Lord of the Night Court, takes her away from the Spring Court for one week in every month, and those weeks show her a version of Prythian she was never allowed to see. The circle Rhysand keeps treats her as a decision-maker rather than something to be protected or displayed, and the contrast with her coming marriage to Tamlin is the spine of the book.

The second volume widens the map considerably. The courts, the laws that bind them and Prythian's relationship with the human lands and the king beyond the wall become the war the rest of the series is fought over, and Feyre's own gifts prove stronger and stranger than the people around her will admit. The title belongs to the Night Court's own history rather than to anything Feyre does.

The series continued past this book. A Court of Wings and Ruin followed in 2017, taking Feyre back into the Spring Court to gather intelligence on Tamlin, and a fourth novel and a novella came later. This second volume is also where the cast grows beyond the Spring Court, and where the story stops being a bargain between two people and becomes one about a set of courts preparing for a war none of them can avoid.
